I am so Steamed right now... I found a site that sells Bulk from Chinese mass produced vendors, and this one has 4 of my feather earrings listed on their front page:
http://ywanlai.en.alibaba.com/productgrouplist-212843438-1/Earrings.html
The titles are almost Exactly as I wrote them in listing the items in my Artfire shop, and they stole the picture and watermarked over it. Here is my picture:

I can't contact the owner OR reprot them to the site unless I sign up for the site!! When I try to sign up, it asks if I am a supplier, buyer or both... UM Neither!!! The site is run out of Hong Kong, so i guess there is NOTHING I can do, but just Warn all of your handmade Artist to watermark your pictures. I am sure that I am NOT the only one this is happening to. It makes ALL our hard work look like mass produced Chinese Crap!!!
Many years ago in my Fire Investigation Class, my Teacher said, "Plagiarism is the Finest Form of Flattery" Well, I am Very Flattered, but I am still Steamed!
addtional info found on the site:
Here is the abuse email address from the registrar. You can email them and let them know they are using a copyrighted picture that you took and own. Provide them the link to your page. It's doubtful they will take the picture down or even respond to you since the site in the Cayman Island, and it looks like they are operating out of Hong Kong through China. There is an Organization name in the registrar in Santa Clara, CA, but when I looked up the snail mail address, it's the address of Network Associates. This is likely who they registered their domain name through, and they just used their snail mail address.

Seriously People You MUST STOP Buying the CRAP from CHINA... They've been doing it for 20+ years to the US. They don't have a Research and Development area of China like most companies do in the US. They just steal it, usually through the Internet, and reproduce it. It is the Only way China is able to thrive as a country...off the sweat of US workers.
ReplyDeleteOh hell NO!! Isn't it bad enough that we have to deal with people actually getting away with selling China stuff on PowWow Trail?!?. This is crazy! And I was just getting ready to develop a blog about people selling Crafts for .99 on Ebay. Kinda makes you wonder now how they are doing it.
ReplyDeleteI know your work. You know mine. And we both know how much we put into it. This just sucks!!

I have started a FB page to educate the people about this. Most say, "There is Nothing We can Do about it" BUT WE ARE AMERICANS... We can shout it from the rooftops, educate other AMERICANS... that is what FB, myspace, twitter, and YouTube are for!!!

I would like to reinstate that you do not need to register as an Alibaba member in order to file the claim on AliProtect. Furthermore, I would like to advise you that please file on AliProtect if you find any more questionable Alibaba vendors in the future. We would also appreciate if you can pass the link of AliProtect to your fellow artisans if they find any Alibaba vendors misuse the product photos. That will help them speed up the filing process.
Please feel free to contact me at 408-748-1200 ext. 205 or email at wendywong@alibaba-inc.com if you need further assistance.
