This year has been important in my life, I lost my father to Cancer 22 years ago. He was a Jeweler and very much an inspiration in my life. I am the only one of his 4 children that has pursued the Artistic qualities handed down to us. I have realized that from this point on, I will live longer without my father than with him. His birthday would have been November 6 and he would have been 83 this year. THUS, the ending date for the Giveaway.

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK, 2011
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
Fires, whether caused by people or nature, can have devastating effects. Hundreds of thousands of fires happen in and around American homes every year, killing or injuring thousands of people and causing untold damage to families and communities. This week, we honor the selfless first responders who put themselves on the line to safeguard us all from fire, and we reaffirm the need for Americans to practice fire safety throughout the year.
This year's Fire Prevention Week theme, "Protect Your Family from Fire," encourages all Americans to promote fire prevention awareness both inside and outside the home. Everyone can take significant steps to mitigate the risk of fire, from installing and maintaining smoke alarms on every level of their home to practicing safe cooking behaviors. Families can help protect themselves by designing and practicing an escape plan that includes an outside meeting place with multiple exit paths out of each room. And, with the help of local safety officials, families can work together to protect their neighborhood with a Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
In 2011, Federal firefighting grants have been provided to 16 States to assist with wildfires that have caused destruction to families, farms, and businesses. Those living with the threat of wildfire can safeguard their houses by mowing dry grasses to two inches or less, and by clearing brush, leaves, green grass, and lumber from around their homes. By taking precautionary steps, and by discussing and practicing evacuation plans with our families, we can empower ourselves and our communities with the tools to prevent fires, and to save lives, property, and livestock when fires do occur.
This week, our Nation honors the dedicated firefighters and other first responders who do the hard, dangerous work of keeping our communities safe from fire. Many have laid down their lives to save our friends and neighbors, and their selfless sacrifice defines the nature of courage. As we pay tribute to their memories, let us resolve to maintain our vigilance and take proactive steps to stop fire emergencies before they begin.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 9 through October 15, 2011, as Fire Prevention Week. On Sunday, October 16, 2011, in accordance with Public Law 107 51, the flag of the United States will be flown at half staff on all Federal office buildings in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. I call on all Americans to participate in this observance with appropriate programs and activities and by renewing their efforts to prevent fires and their tragic consequences.

Heading for Halloween
Greetings,
Well the leaves are really starting to change now as we head for Halloween. We just did a stint of 33 days of travelling and pow wows and are settled down for a bit in Georgia. We are gonna get caught up on some work, restocking, and a couple special orders. I actually have a small line of Halloween Spirit Beaded Earrings, some of which have already sold. I will post pictures of the ones that are not in the shop that I am making again. If you see a pair you might want please let me know, seems they go fast ;)
We have another powwow coming up in November that we do in Folkston, GA. That will probably be the last event for the season for us, as I say I need to restock. Here is the info for the pow wow:

We will be working on the online shop this winter and hopefully starting a new section of the shop for Supplies! Seems where we go up north on the trail, there are not any Supply Vendors. So I have been selling some "Destash" items (new word I learned LOL) Horn, Bone, Beads and Claws that I have extra and above that are not, as of yet, slated to be used for something. I will probably get into some hanks of seed beads and stringing materials as well. Please let us know if there is anything you would like to see in the shop "Supplies" section. I will be listing the supplies online as well, but I have to determine what venue I will use to sell them, as I do not want to disrupt my Handmade Artifact on Artfire.
Please see my othr shop at "By These Hands" which I started a couple months ago. I will be listing other items also not found in my Artfire shop. I made a trade for some Great Tribal Horn and Bone Carved Earrings and they are listed there.

Catching UP & Euharlee, GA Pow wow
Greetings,
We have been travelling for a week strait it seems. Gone from Virginia to Florida and back up to Georgia. Today is my Birthday and I think I may take the day completely OFF. That is RARE for me, because I have to be doing something, making something, or woking on the computer. SO with that said, I will get the business out of the way and be OFF!!!

Three days of Travel and about 700 miles took us into the Florida panhandle for pow wow in Sopchoppy. This was a pow wow that has been around for a while and the grounds are VERY nice. Plenty of camper hook-ups, on the river, fishing, swimming, out in the middle of Florida's Best. Unfortunately we had rain shower on Saturday that drove the people that were there, home early. The dancers had a Great time though, dancing until 10pm! I have only a few pictures of some mens dance to post later. I was rather sick with a bug while there and Ken had to run the shop most of the time.
It was amazing to watch the colorrun out as we travelled south. There were so many wildflowers in Virginia and Carolina and as we got to Georgia and Florida there were on a sparse few. This pretty little Orb Weaver was in NC at our first stopover. We are now in Georgia, getting ready for a Great Veteran Pow wow in Euharlee. October 1 - 2, 2011 ~ 7th Euharlee Veterans Pow Wow

This weekend's pow wow is a first time pow wow and is being hosted by Grey Wolf and elder in the Virginia mountains area. I am looking forward to visiting Virginia one more time this season, I just love it there! Ken will be the MC at this pow wow as well, He really enjoys helping and working the pow wow. Plans ~ Pow Wows ~ and Peace
Plans...
We have had many changes in plans over the past several months... it's just how we live. We do what we are directed to do by the Great Spirit. Someone on Facebook the other day asked, "What are your plans today?"... My answer was: finish some pinback feathers, start drying things out, and count my blessings (not necessarily in that order) We were going to go back to the Lake Lure area in between these pow wows, but then the weather came and Chief Jim asked us to come to their gathering this friday. Thankfully Clyde and Mayola directed us to this Awesome little campground in the mountains. It got kinda scarey with the weather, a Tornado touched down less than 2 miles from here and we are on a creek that we watched rise pretty good with the rain. As of now, we will be heading to the next pow wow in Cedar Bluff, VA next wednesday.
Pow Wows...
This past weekends first time pow wow was simply Incredible. Creator brought all these people together and we Danced, Sang and Honored in a way that would make Family jealous. The locals came out and some camped all weekend with us, they were so very welcoming and supporting to have us back again. The promoter posted the following:
I would like to take this time to thank everyone that attended the first annual Foothills Native American Powwow this past Labor Day weekend. We had 5500 guest not bad for the first one. We had over a 100 dancers, and 14 vendors, we had the greatest group of dancers male & female possible. We want to thank all our guest and let you know we will be back next year Labor Day weekend. And you all are invited to attend next year.
I would like to thank my blood brother Raven Wood Drum & Singers. Raven Wood is the best, he is trustworthy and very helpful to others. Here is an example we gave him his pay envelope and minutes later he returns and said someone made a mistake and overpaid him and returned over amount. As it turns out we did overpay Raven by mistake . We miscounted the money, Raven Wood is an honest man and a great drummer and singer. I would recommend him to any Powwow. Thank you Raven.
I'd like to thank the arena director Thundering Buffalo Jack Johnson and head lady dancers Woman Brave Spirit Marsha Johnson, Mayola Maize, also would like to thank all the lady dancers. We had 2 head veterans, we would like to thank each of them Carlos Martin & Clyde Maize. Also we'd like to thank Clyde Maize for displaying all the necessary flags for the Powwow ceremony. It has been a long time since I've met people this great. We would like to than the VFW Hall for their Veterans Tribute. We would like to thank Running Wolfe, Burt Lemons & Ann Lemons. I can't thank of all the names of the wonderful dancers and craft vendors but thank you all.
I'd also like to thank our MC Ken Cloudwalker and his wife. You are great people we love you. You did a wonderful job, I'd recommend you to any Powwow organization. Also would like to thank Chief Johnson, Chief Jim Wilson and everyone I haven't mentioned. Thank you all for making this spiritual gathering a success in spiritually changing lives and healing. I was told by several people the spirit was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Many of you that was there know what I'm talking about. This Powwow was in the creators hands and in his direction. Thank you creator for making this possible and keeping our people safe as they traveled to and from this event. Thank you for watching over Chief Johnson, Jack Johnson and Marsha Johnson and the others that broke down on the mountain south of Sparta, NC. I have many more pictures and a few videos that still need to be posted. We will be attending a gathering by the Nuluti Equani Ehi Tribe this friday and I should be able to upload more then. The interent and phone service is very Iffy here in this hollow. It's OK though, it is soooo very Peaceful with the creek running in the background and wonderful wild herbs growing all around... I have even begun collecting the Black Walnuts for this years medicine! The doggies are able to have their Harness' off and run FREE because we are the only people in the campground. Bear went swimming yesterday, he Loves the water (way too COLD for me though!) We are definitely having some much needed quiet time here and enjoying every minute of it... for soon it will be long travels, one after another, for a month strait before we can stop again.
In closing I would like to Thank ALL the Family and Peoples that came together for the Foothills pow wow. It was a VERY special event, and we look forward to doing it again next year. We Love y'all very much and will see you down the road... sooner than you might think ;) Much Love and Many Prayers
